The Irish Academy of Management Mentoring Programme aims to provide members with an opportunity to receive career and professional development mentoring from more experienced members of the academic community.
Where possible, mentors will be assigned to mentees based on mutual areas of expertise and interest, respectively.
Expressions of interest in participating in the programme as a mentor or mentee will be sought annually from the IAM membership. A member of the IAM Council will review expressions of interest. Where possible, mentors will be matched with mentees, however this may be constrained by mentor availability and mentor areas of specialism.
Principles underpinning the IAM Mentor Programme
Engagement in the IAM mentoring programme is on a voluntary basis for both the mentor and mentee. The frequency and duration of the meetings will be dependent on the time commitments of the mentor, but the expectation is that it would be in the range of between one and three meetings per year. Meetings should be held at a time and venue convenient to the mentor in recognition that s/he is providing the service on a pro bono basis.
The success of the mentoring programme is determined by the following principles:
Ownership of the mentoring process rests with the mentee and s/he drives the mentoring agenda
Engagement in a mentoring relationship is on a voluntary basis for both the mentor and mentee
Discussions during the mentoring relationship between mentor and mentee are confidential
It is a relationship built upon trust and mutual respect
The relationship places no obligation on either party beyond its developmental intent.
To avail of the mentoring programme, a mentee must be a fully paid up member of the IAM. You can join the IAM HERE.
