Early Career Workshop
2022 Irish Academy of Management (IAM) Annual Conference
In Person Event, Wednesday 24th August 2pm - 3.30pm
Are you an early-career academic? Interested in pursuing funding opportunities to kick-start the next stage of your career?
On the back of our first successful event at Queen’s University in Belfast in March 2022 this workshop, hosted by the Early Career Development Network (ECDN), features expert tips and guidance on the Funding strand of FASTIR careers. The aim of the ECDN is to promote opportunities for early career academics to come together and discuss the many strands of FASTIR careers and meet experts on everything from teaching to impact, and funding to research and academic service.
All conference delegates are welcome to join this workshop.
At this workshop, the ECDN welcomes Dr Robert Gillanders, Associate Professor of Economics at DCU Business School, to share his experience and advice on targeting funding opportunities, crafting applications, and ultimately securing competitive funding awards.
Dr Gillanders is co-founder and co-director of the DCU Anti-corruption Research Centre (ARC). He is Co-Principal Investigator of the IRC funded project Corruption, Gender, and Sustainable Development (COGS). He has published extensively on the causes and consequences of corruption in journals including Governance, Social Science & Medicine, Public Choice, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organisation, the Journal of Development Studies, and Small Business Economics. Robert will share his advice on the Funding with you at what should be a very stimulating session.

Funding is a core strand of academic careers and embedded in many university career development frameworks. However, early career scholars may not know where to start, or how best to approach the challenge of securing research funding for the first time.
The ECDN welcomes Dr Robert Gillanders, Associate Professor of Economics at DCU Business, who will share his experience and advice on targeting funding opportunities, crafting applications, and ultimately securing competitive funding awards.
Dr Gillander’s presentation will be followed by audience questions and discussion on funding or other aspects of managing FASTIR careers.
