ECDN Launch and Workshop Event

The opening workshop of the ECDN will be focused on career paths and development. This event will involve presentations, panel discussions, and Q&A around the variety of career paths available to early career scholars (i.e. PhD students, postdocs, early career lecturers etc along with teasing out the benefits, drawbacks, opportunities and challenges of the different options. It will also seek to provide guidance on how best to develop and manage your academic career and support your academic and research network.
How the academic job market works – Panel Discussion: </>
The panel explore topics such as; what is looked for when recruiting early career academics, advice on best managing your academic career, challenges/advice in transitioning from a PhD student to academic staff member.

Transitioning from PhD to Academic Career – Panel Discussion:
This panel discussion will involve several colleagues from different backgrounds and who have taken different pathways of in their Academic Career. The topics explored will include discussions around the challenge/advice in moving from being a PhD to academic staff member, completing your PhD while on academic staff; the value and pitfalls of international experience, taking up a lecturing post versus postdoc, other types of academic/research jobs, the academic jobs market and succeeding at interviews and so forth.
